About Amir Khusrow:
Abu'l Hasan Yamīn ud-Dīn Khusrau (1253–1325 AD), better known as Amīr Khusrau Dehlavī, was a Sufi singer, poet, and scholar who lived under the Delhi Sultanate. He was an iconic figure in the cultural history of the Indian subcontinent. He was a mystic and a spiritual disciple of Nizamuddin Auliya of Delhi, India. He wrote poetry primarily in Persian, but also in Hindavi. A vocabulary in verse, the Ḳhāliq Bārī, containing Arabic, Persian, and Hindavi terms are often attributed to him. Khusrau is sometimes referred to as the "voice of India" or "Parrot of India" (Tuti-e-Hind), and has been called the "father of Urdu literature.
Khusrau is regarded as the "father of qawwali" (a devotional form of the singing of the Sufis in the Indian subcontinent), and introduced the ghazal style of a song into India, both of which still exist widely in India and Pakistan. Khusrau was an expert in many styles of Persian poetry which were developed in medieval Persia, from Khāqānī's qasidas to Nizami's khamsa. He used 11 metrical schemes with 35 distinct divisions. He wrote in many verse forms including ghazal, masnavi, qata, rubai, do-baiti and tarkib-band. His contribution to the development of the ghazal was significant.

ای چهرهی زیبای تو رشک بتان آذری
هر چند وصفت می کنم در حسن از آن زیباتری
اے میرے محبوب تیرا چہرہ اُن حسین بتوں اور مجسموں سے بھی زیادہ دلکش ہے جو آزر نے اپنے بتکدہ میں تیار کر کے رکھے ہوئے تھے۔
میں تیری کتنی بھی صفات بیان کروں کم ہیں حقیقتاً تو اُن سب حسینوں سے زیادہ خوبصورت ہے۔
هرگز نیاید در نظر نقشی ز رویت خوبتر
شمسی ندانم یا قمر، حوری ندانم یا پری
تیرے چہرے سے زیادہ خوبصورت چہرہ مجھے ہرگز نظر نہیں آتا۔تیرے سامنے سورج ،چاند حور اور پری کی کیا حیثیت ہے۔(یعنی تو چاند اور سورج سےزیادہ روشن اور حور اور پری سے زیادہ نازک اور حسین ہے)
آفاق را گردیدهام مهر بتان ورزیدهام
بسیار خوبان دیدهام اما تو چیز دیگری
میں دنیا کی بہت سی اطراف میں گھوما پھرا ہوں۔میں نے بہت سے حسین لوگوں سے محبت اختیار کی ہے۔میں نے بہت سے حسین دیکھے ہیں لیکن تو کوئی اور ہی چیز ہے۔ یعنی تو دنیا بھر میں ایک منفرد اور لاثانی حسین معشوق ہے۔
عزم تماشا کرده ای آهنگ صحرا کرده ای
جان ودل ما بردهای این است رسم دلبری
تو نے ارادہ کر لیا کہ دنیا کو (عشق کا) تماشا دکھا دے۔تو نے صحرا کو چلے جانے کا ارادہ کر لیا ہے۔ تو نے ہماری جان اور ہمارا دل لے لیا ہے۔کیا یہی رسم محبت ہےکیا دل چرانے کی رسم کچھ ایسی ہی ہے۔
عالم همه یغمای تو خلقی همه شیدای تو
آن نرگس رعنای تو آورده کیش کافری
(اے میرے محبوب) یہ سارا جہان تیری تاراج کی زد میں ہے۔تمام دنیا کی خلقت تیری شیدا ہے۔تیری ان خوبصورت نرگسی آنکھوں نے کافری مراد (معشوقوں کی سی) عادات اپنا لی ہیں ۔یعنی تو نے اپنے حسن و دلکشی کی بنا پر پوری دنیا کو لوٹ لیا ہے تیری آنکھوں نے معشوقوں کی سی ایمان لوٹنے والی عادات اپنا لی ہیں
خسرو غریبست و گدا افتاده در شهر شما
باشد که از بهر خدا سوی غریبان بنگری
(اے محبوب)خسرو ایک مسافر ہے اور فقیر ہے اور تمہارے شہر میں گرا پڑا ہے ۔ شاید کہ اللہ کے واسطے ان مسافروں کی جانب تو ایک نظر دیکھ ل
English Translation:
O you whose beautiful face is the envy of the idols of Azar
(Abraham's father and famous idol maker);
You remain superior to my praise.
All over the world have I travelled;
many a maiden’s love have I tasted;
Many a lovely-star have I seen;
but you are something unique.
I have become You and You have become me
I manifest as body, You are the spirit;
Let no one say after this [union],
that You are different and I am different!
Khusrau, a beggar, a stranger has come wandering to your town;
For the sake of the Creator, have pity on this beggar
and do not turn him away from your door!
