Riccardo Manzotti è professore di filosofia teoretica alla IULM di Milano. Laureato sia in filosofia che in ingegneria, dopo il dottorato in robotica si è sempre occupato al problema delle basi fisiche della coscienza. Le neuroscienze non sanno perché il cervello faccia esperienza del mondo. L’informazione è priva di colore, eppure noi vediamo i colori. Come è possibile? Si tratta dell’Hard Problem. E se la soluzione fosse completamente diversa? La Spread Mind avanza un’ipotesi straordinaria: la coscienza del mondo non è altro che il mondo che ci circonda, non è dentro il cervello, ma fuori del nostro corpo. Quando vedo una mela sono un cervello o sono la mela stessa? Mettendo in discussione l’identità tra mente e corpo e abbracciando l’identità tra mente e oggetto fisico, la Spread Mind sostiene che la nostra coscienza non è dentro il nostro corpo, non è un prodotto dei neuroni, ma è fisicamente fuori del corpo. La coscienza non è altro che il mondo che esiste relativamente al nostro corpo. Graduate in Philosophy and Engineering, after his PhD in Robotics he has worked on the physical basis of consciousness. Neurosciences have little to no knowledge of how and why the brain experiences the world. Information is colourless, yet we see the colours: how is that possible? This is the Hard Problem. What if the solution to this problem is a radically, different-than-any-previous-one ever considered? The Spread Mind puts forward an extraordinary hypothesis: the consciousness of the world is nothing but the world around us; it is not inside the brain, but outside our body. When I see an apple, the question is whether I am my brain (and therefore its neural activity) or the apple itself. By questioning the concept of identity between mind and body and embracing the one between mind and physical objects, the Spread Mind states that our consciousness is not the product of neural activity inside our body, but the objects physically outside it that we are conscious of. Recentemente, ha pubblicato due volumi internazionali sulla Spread Mind, che è la teoria che riassume il suo lavoro: Consciousness and Object(John Benjamin, Amsterdam) e The Spread Mind(OR Books, New York).
