In the six years we've been living here in a town in the province of Alicantes located in the arid south east of Spain, we've had time to see which vines do better here. In this area it usually rains around 300-400 mm a year, mainly during spring and fall/autumn. The vines that were already here when we moved and have been here for decades we can know for sure that they are drought tolerant since they have been here for years with no irrigation and we can know they tolerate mild frost since it does freeze here around five or six nights a year and it doesn't reach lower than -2˚C. We've tried planting other species; some have done good and others haven't, and from the ones that have done good we've tried to give them the best start possible to get established and then we've given them a trial period consisting of about a year or two without irrigation or protection from frost. These are the vines we show you here: 00:46 Common ivy (Hedera helix) 01:33 Oranje trumpet vine (Campis radicans) 03:07 Bower plant (Pandorea jasminoides) 03:58 Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) 05:17 Senecio angulatus 06:00 Bouganvillea sp. 07:57 Leadworts (Plumbago auriculate) 08:42 Twisted jasmin (Jasminum tortuosum) 09:44 Bukhara fleeceflower (Polygonum (Fallopia) baldschuanica) 10:33 Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) I hope this video is useful 😁 Follow us on Instagram: @karoquaade and @annikaqa
