IgA nephropathy (IgAN), also known as Berger's disease, is the most common type of glomerulonephritis, a group of diseases that damage the glomeruli, the tiny filtering units in the kidneys. IgA nephropathy is characterized by the deposition of immunoglobulin A (IgA) in the glomeruli, which triggers an inflammatory response and leads to kidney damage.
👉 What are the symptoms of IgA nephropathy?
Many people with IgAN have no symptoms or mild symptoms that they may not even notice. However, some people may experience the following symptoms:
🔶 Blood in the urine (hematuria)
🔶 Protein in the urine (proteinuria)
🔶 Swelling of the face, hands, feet, or abdomen (edema)
🔶 High blood pressure
🔶 Fatigue
🔶 Abdominal pain
