The Women of Country was
The Women of Country was a two-hour music special that was broadcast over the CBS Television Network on May 6, 1993. It includes musical performances in a concert at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, by legends such as Tammy Wynette and new artists like Suzy Bogguss, combined with contemporary interviews and films of vintage performances.
The show includes many classic woman of country in their later years such as Rose Maddox, Patsy Montana, Kitty Wells, Willma Lee Cooper, Jean Shepard, Skeeter Davis, Wanda Jackson, Tammy Wynette, Dale Evans, Brenda Lee and many more.
There are many interviews from stars such as the Carter Sisters, Carlene Carter, Dolly Parton and many more.
The roots of women of country are looked into and feature Mayebelle and Sara Carter who has sadly passed by the time this special was made.
