In 1907, 10,000 Canadian and
In 1907, 10,000 Canadian and Americans marched through Vancouver in a parade organized by the Asiatic Exclusion League, which was pushing for the banning of all Asians from coming to Canada.
The parade quickly turned into a two-day riot that would destroy dozens of homes and businesses in Japantown and Chinatown.
Rather than use this riot as a reason to make Canada more inclusive, the government of British Columbia and Canada used it to double-down on racism.
Today, I look at the riot that changed Vancouver.
