After meeting the love of his life, practicing Muslim Shadia from TLC's new show "All-American Muslim," Jeff made the decision to convert from Catholicism to Islam. The two reasons for converting, Jeff says, were for his wife Shadia and out of respect for Shadia's Muslim family.
As demonstrated by the "Anderson" audience on Thursday's show, practicing Muslims have to deal with a variety of stereotypes from other religions in the United States, particularly in post-9/11 America.
"You can't paint Islam with that broad brush," Jeff says. "I'm sitting here as a convert to Islam. It really hurts me to be told that I can't be looked at as an American, a patriot, which I very much am. We all are."
