Monterey Bay Whale Watching April 2018. Orcas, Humpbacks, Fin Whales, and Dolphins!

On April 28th 2018, I went whale watching with Monterey Bay Whale Watch on the boat Sea Wolf II. We started the tour by watching a maternity pod of female Risso's dolphins and their calves. Next, we headed out to Monterey Canyon and spent 5 hours with the CA140's, also known as Emma's pod, of California Transient Orcas. This pod is composed of 7 individuals including CA140, CA140B, CA140C, CA140D, CA140B1, CA140B2, and CA163. The pod of killer whales killed and ate a pacific white sided dolphin and then engaged in social behavior, such as rolling and breaching, for several hours before swimming alongside our boat. We then watched a pod of 9 fin whales for an hour before viewing several humpback whales, one of which tail lobbed near the boat.
