During the defence Expo 2022, Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL) showcased its 155mm/52 caliber Extended Range Mountain Artillery Gun (MAG-ER). The gun is an upgraded version of the 155mm/39 caliber ULH known as the Mountain Artillery Gun (MAG). Apart from the MAG-ER, KSSL has also developed another 155mm/52 caliber gun system known as Bharat 52 and a 155mm/45 caliber gun system called Bharat 45.
155mm/52 caliber MAG-ER
The new 155mm/52 caliber MAG-ER is ultra-light weight gun system designed and developed indigenously. Weighing less than 8 tons, the gun can be deployed easily at high mountain area with digital fire control. It has an impressive range of 41km. The gun is highly reliable with low maintenance cost. In towing condition, the gun speed is 60 km/h on asphalt and 24 km/h on rough terrain. MAG-ER is is capable of operating at elevation of -3° to 70° and can traverse at +/-23°. The speed of the MAG-ER is 60 km/h when towing on asphalt and 24 km/h on rough terrain.
The intense rate of fire of the gun is 12 rounds in 3 minutes, and the sustained rate of fire is 42 rounds in 60 minutes. In burst mode the gun can fire 3 rounds in 30 seconds.
Recently in an interview with Janes.com, Rahul Bhilare, manager at KSSL, told that the proof-firing trials of the MAG-ER are going on with the Indian Army, and the company is expecting an order from the service soon.
155mm/39 caliber Ultra-Light Howitzer (MArG 155 – BR)
Recently we have also reported that the Bharat Forge has received its first order for artillery gun worth $155.5 million or approx. Rs 1,265 crore. Armenia has placed this ordered which will involve the purchase of four-to-five regiments of 155 mm 155 mm, 39 calibre howitzers that are mounted on trucks for mobility. This gun is also called MArG 155 – BR. The MArG comes in 2 variants which is Steel and Titanium. The steel version weighs about 6.8 tons and the Titanium version weighs less than 5 tons. Kalyani has offered Indian Army also its all-steel ULH mounted on a 4x4 HMV. The gun system is equipped with shoot and scoot capability, providing advanced technical performance and high integration. The MArG 155 – BR has gradient negotiation of 30 degree and elevation from -2 to + 72. It has on board ammunition carrying capacity of 18 rounds with Zone 5 charge. The gun can quickly be deployed and can be brought into action in just 1.5 minutes in daytime and 2 minutes during night. It has 3-modes of firing. In Burst mode it can fire: 3 rounds in 30 sec, in Intense mode it can fire: 12 rounds in 3 min and in sustained mode it can fire: 42 rounds in 60 min.
