STORYLINE:

Britain's Prince Charles played tribute on Saturday to more than 2-thousand Canadian troops who were laid to rest in Normandy.

The Prince of Wales visited a Canadian cemetery where the fallen troops from the 3rd Canadian Division are buried.

His visit to the cemetery is one of many small ceremonies he plans to take part in over the weekend to mark the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

Charles was escorted around the graveyard by Adrienne Clarkson, the Governor General of Canada. She is the British Queen's representative in Canada.

The Prince placed a wreath at the cemetery's central memorial and stood in silence with his head bowed briefly, before being shown the white headstones of those who died.

Canada was the third largest allied force that took part in the landings after the U.S. and Britain.
