Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga had some big shoes to fill as the follow up to the beloved 2015 hit Mad Max: Fury Road, and audience feelings were mixed from the beginning: excited at the prospect of seeing fan favorite Anya Taylor-Joy take over the the role of Furiosa, concerned at how… not great the visual effects looked in the trailer, unsure of how necessary this prequel story even was. And now that it’s been released, the film still seems to be hitting some roadblocks – it’s not the film many were expecting, and the fact that it’s neck and neck with The Garfield movie at the box office means it probably isn’t the smash financial success that the studio was hoping for either. But that doesn’t mean that all is lost. So let’s take a deeper look at the one big problem the film had to overcome, and why in the end the story is worthwhile – even if it isn’t told in the way we might have been expecting.
