This week's Koffee With Karan
This week's Koffee With Karan lacked focus on Sridevi, with the conversation centering too much on Boney Kapoor. Discussing their father seemed like a missed opportunity, as the chirpy Kapoor sisters, Janhvi and Khushi, were more enthusiastic about sharing details about their boyfriends. The absence of substantial talk about Sridevi disappointed viewers.
Who invites the two Kapoor sisters and spends (wastes) time talking about their father producer Boney Kapoor? Even Boney would agree that talking about him with his daughters is such a colossal waste of an opportunity.
There was this ‘accidental’ moment when Janhvi blurted out her current boyfriend’s name as one of the persons she had on her speed dial. Truthfully, there was nothing accidental about that moment.
A part of this episode’s problem was that it all seemed rehearsed. The spark of spontaneity was conspicuously absent. I found the two daughters of the great Sridevi to be terribly dull. Maybe they were not allowed to be themselves.
Host Karan Johar handled them with kid gloves. But they had very little to talk about except parties, boyfriends, and papa Boney. There was so much we wanted to know about the two sisters’ bonding with Mom. All we got was a glam view of two young women who couldn’t stop gushing over their own high-maintenance existence.
It was sad to hear Khushi describe the two sisters as “Walmart’s Kardashian sisters”.The trouble with the new generation of stars in Filmistan is their accessibility and their preoccupation with mundaneness. The sense of enigma that made Sridevi so appealing is completely missing in her daughters.
