Root canal treatment (RCT) is common these days to save a decaying tooth. Root canal procedure involves the removal of nerve and pulp from the insides of the tooth followed by cleaning and shaping of the tooth.
A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form.
Root canal treatment is highly successful; the procedure has more than a 95% success rate. Many teeth fixed with a root canal can last a lifetime.
