Definition of Protein engineering: Protein engineering can be define as the modification of protein structure with recombinant DNA technology or chemical treatment to get a desirable function for better use in medicine industry and agriculture.
Recombinant DNA technology is joining together of DNA molecule from two different species. protein engineering is the process of developing useful or valuable protein for example insulin.
Objective of protein engineering -
1) to create superior enzyme to catalyse the production of high value towards specific chemicals
2) to produce enzyme in large quantity
3) to produce biological compound includes synthetic peptide, storage proteins and synthetic drugs of superior quality for industrial application
4) enzyme should possess some characteristics - a) enzyme should be robust with long life
b) enzyme should be able to reuse the substrate
c) they should be able to work under condition extreme PH, extreme temperature, concentration of substrate
d) to speed up the process
e) thermal stability of enzyme reaction specificity.
