Cell signalling is the most important mechanism in cell biology. there are different types of cell signalling pathways like endocrine paracrine , autocrine and juxtacrine signalling pathways. all signalling pathways involve signalling receptors which are present on the cell membrane and most important of all are GPCRs which is called as G-protein coupled receptors and other important ones are receptor tyrosine kinases.
types of cell signaling depends on the distance that is present between the secretory cell and the target cell. When the diatance is much the type of cell signaling is endocrine signaling. If the secretory cell is near to the target cell then this type of cell signaling is called as paracrine signaling. When the distance between the communicating cells is no more they directly contact each other, then this type of cell signaling is called as juxtacrine signaling or contact dependent signaling. There is one more type cell signaling which is called as autocrine cell signaling, in autocrine cell signaling same cell is the secretory cell and that same cell is also the target cell.
