MAKE THE COCOON:

1.  Newborn: Chain 5, slip stitch to join and form a ring. Chain 2, make 9 double crochet in the ring, slip stitch to join.
    3 to 6 Months:  Chain 5, slip stitch to join and form a ring.  Chain 1, make 11 double crochet in the ring, slip stitch
                             to join.

2.  Chain 2 and turn, make 2 double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.  (Newborn: 20 stitches, 3 -- 6
                             Months: 24 stitches. )

3.  Repeat step 2.  (Newborn: 40 stitches, 3 to 6 Months: 48 stitches).

4. * Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.  Repeat from * until the work measures
    18 to 20 inches long.  Fasten off.

    Optional: Pass a ribbon through the 2nd row from the top, and tie in a bow in the front.
