Cotta means Cooked
It's one of the most popular Italian desserts. The finished dessert looks luscious, decadent and very intimidating & daunting to make. I would like to show you how easy it is to make. All you need for this beautiful dessert is time & patience, and you'll have yourself a romantic show stopper dessert that everyone loves. It's a great make-ahead dessert.
When made well, it's smooth and silky on the tongue from the slow cooking process of the cream. You can serve it with a berry coulis, fresh soft fruits or like in this video, with some jelly and berries.
Basic Panna Cotta Recipe
Ingredients
Gelatin 1½ Tablespoon
Warm Water 3 Tablespoons
Fresh Cream 2 cups
Milk 1 cup
Castor Sugar ¼ cup sugar
Vanilla Extract 1 Teaspoon
Method
- Mix gelatin with water and stir until dissolved, let it stand for 3 minutes
- In a saucepan, on medium heat pour in the cream and bring to a simmer
- add sugar & stir well ( if you like your desserts sweeter, add 1 more TBS)
- add in the gelatin & with a spatula stir well
- add in the vanilla & stir
- remove from stove and continue stirring
- once everything looks well incorporated...
- pour 8 equal portions into heat & fridge safe very lightly greased ramekins
(Cooking spray works best for greasing ramekins & easy turning over of the panna cotta onto a plate)
( for presentation purposes, you can use clear glasses, but cool your mixture well first)
- allow the panna cotta mixture to cool to room temperature
- refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight
- Serve with soft fresh fruits like mango or like in the video, serve with jelly & berries
