Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is likely to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) today for questionning in connection with a money laundering case amid speculations about his potential arrest by the probe agency. In the likelihood of his arrest, reports suggest that his wife, Kalpana Soren, may take over as new Jharkhand Chief Minister. Amid such speculation, Hemant Soren called key meeting of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislators on January 30 at his residence, especially with the presence of his wife Kalpana, further igniting indications that she might be handed over the reins. Notably, after being ‘untraceable’ for two days, Hemant Soren resurfaced in Ranchi on January 31, moments before the key JMM party MLAs meet. Earlier on January 29, a team of Enforcement Directorate (ED) visited Soren's Delhi residence with the intent of questioning him, but later it was claimed that Jharkhand CM is ‘untraceable.' Reports suggested that amid ED heat in Delhi, Soren took 1300-km road trip to Ranchi.
A massive development has followed the raids carried out by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at the New Delhi residence of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in connection with an illegal mining and land scam. During the raids on Monday, the central probe agency seized a substantial amount of Rs 36 lakhs from the CM's residence, along with two BMW vehicles and incriminating documents related to the alleged scams.
According to top sources, CM Hemant Soren left his Delhi residence on Sunday night, leaving behind the seized money.
