Here's some footage of the ride back from the ATCA Mack Days show at Gerhart Machinery in Lititz, PA this weekend. I was offered a ride to the show from my buddy Ryan, who collects antique tractors and semi trucks. We were originally planning to take his White-Freightliner cabover, then plans changed and we were going to take his Mack Superliner, but the starter burned up the night before, so we ended up taking one of the more reliable trucks in his fleet - a very well-maintained (and well-known) 1978 Mack CF-model pumper-tanker.

This truck was ordered new in 1977 for the Defender Fire Company out of Berwick, PA, and was given unit number 71. It's a CF611 with an ENDT673 Thermodyne engine (same engine used in the older B-models and early R- and F-models) and a Spicer 5-speed transmission (not sure what gear ratio it has, but it tops out at 63 MPH at around 2200 RPM). It also has an air-ride cab. The truck pulled all the hills really well, and rode pretty smooth during the 120-mile ride there and back. The set-back front axle really improves the ride.

This truck really turned some heads at the show and we even got to meet the gentleman who spec'd and ordered the truck new in '77. Here you can see us pulling out of the show, driving through Amish country and through the mountains on the scenic ride back from the show. It was so cool to be able to ride in an old Mack, and a cabover at that.
