Ross Hauser, MD and, Danielle Matias, MMS, PA-C, discuss one of the most frequently asked questions that people ask after they received x-rays or MRIs and the doctor said they showed "nothing" or everything looked "normal." Naturally, the next question is "Well, what is causing my pain?!" Often, patients are referred for things to try like a round of PT or a shot of cortisone, and sometimes the doctor just throws their hands up without knowing what to do. In even more heartbreaking situations, the patient has their own sense of sanity questioned and is suggested to go for therapy and start anti-depressants because no one believes that they have a multitude of symptoms. Yet, they know what they are experiencing is very real and often have a specific date of when the symptoms started, they know how to recreate the symptoms, and they have a strong suspicion of what structures are causing the symptoms. By the time many patients find our center, they have experienced a variety of these situations.  Upon really listening to their history and doing a physical exam, as well as motion ultrasound or other dynamic testing like Digital Motion X-ray, we can almost immediately see if there is a structural component that is likely responsible for their pain, joint breakdown, and other symptoms.
