How The Strategy Tester Works: Tutorial

This video is for beginners of TradingView or those who still don't know how to use the Strategy Tester. Our Strategy Tester is one of the fastest ways to backtest a specific strategy and see detailed data like profit, loss, max drawdown, Sharpe Ratio, and more.

To get started with the Strategy Tester you first need to make sure you have coded the strategy you want to test. Open the Pine Editor and begin writing out your strategy. If you don't know how to code your own Strategy, start by selecting a pre-built strategy from the Indicators and Strategies menu. This video will walk you through both of these options for getting started with the Strategy Tester.

Strategies on TradingView are coded in Pine Script, which is our proprietary scripting language. You can learn more about Pine Script here: https://www.tradingview.com/pine-scri.... If you can master Pine Script you can begin to backtest almost any strategy you have in mind with a few lines of code.
