--Hennie Schutte Dorpers and Boergoats will not be hosting their annual Silage Day in 2024. This is due to an unprecedented low rainfall and drought experienced in the southern part of Botswana. --Silage is pasture grass that has been 'pickled'. It is a method used to preserve the pasture for cows & sheep to eat later when natural pasture isn't good, like in the dry season. --The grasses are cut and then fermented to keep as much of the nutrients (such as sugars and proteins) as possible. --Watch below as Hennie Schutte explains how the annual Silage day came about and watch young farmer Kago Monngae as he demonstrates how to package silage in sealed bags at your farm.
