In the south of Colorado, surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, lies one of America's great scenic tourist railroads. The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad, based out of Alamosa, Colorado, operates both passenger and freight trains over several ex-Denver and Rio Grande lines in south central Colorado. Come along for a 30 minute ride on a steam photographer's special from Alamosa to La Veta, Colorado and return. On August 26th, 2010, the Rio Grande Scenic hosted an all day photo excursion pulled by their 2-8-0 steam locomotive # 18. #18 was built in 1910 and hauled iron ore trains for most of its career. In 1989, it began a long tourist railroad career on the Grand Canyon Railway. Since 2008, # 18 has been pulling passenger trains on the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad.

While there is some narration throughout the program, it is fairly limited so you can fully enjoy the sights and sounds of the steam train as it travels across the eastern Colorado Rocky Mountains. Most shots in the video were left on the long side for the same reason. Enjoy this ride on one of the great steam tourist railroads in the U.S.
