Polop (Polop de la Marina)
Polop (Polop de la Marina) is a charming town and municipality in the Valencian Community located near Benidorm in the province of Alicante. The population is around 4000 people.
Polop's origins date back to the Iberian culture, as evidenced by the remains found in its territory. Throughout its history, Polop has stood out for its strategic position as a military enclave thanks to the castle that crowned the hill. In 1090 Polop was conquered by El Cid Campeador and after, he continued on his way towards Denia.
Until 1789, Polop was a barony of the Crown of Aragon.
