Malaysia expected to announce progressive wage policy to lift workers’ salaries

Malaysia is expected to announce a cut in foreign labour, which it has depended on for decades in sectors like construction, plantation and manufacturing, to within 15 per cent of its workforce by 2030. The over-reliance on unskilled foreign labour is said to be why wages are low in the country. In seven years, the government plans to double the median income of Malaysians, which is currently less than US$500. CNA’s Melissa Goh reports.
