Can You Spot the differences between a jaguar and a leopard
These muscular ambush predators are easily mistaken for one another.
The jaguar (Panthera onca) is a wild cat species and the only extant member of the genus Panthera native to the Americas.
The leopard (Panthera pardus) is one of the five species in the genus Panthera, a member of the Felidae. The leopard occurs in a wide range in sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia.

The jaguar is the third-largest feline after the tiger and the lion, and the largest in the Americas. Leopards live all over the world. This species is the third largest cat in the world after the tiger and jaguar and the largest cat in Africa and Persia.
Distribution - The jaguar is found in the Americas. Historically they occurred as far north as California, however the United States population is largely extinct. It
extends south through Central America and into Argentina and is known as a New World Cat.
Leopard populations are found from China and India to the Middle East and down into Africa. It is referred to as an Old World Cat.
The Head - The shape and size of the head is very different between the two cats. Due to the different styles of killing the jaguar has a much broader forehead and wider jaw.
The Body - Jaguars have a large barrel like abdomen. It almost always looks as if they are pregnant or well fed. Leopards, on the other hand, often have a very slight build. Jaguars also have a shorter, stockier build than leopards.
