Suez Canal Opens After $8 Billion Expansion

August 6 -- Egypt opens an $8.2 billion expansion to the Suez Canal on Thursday, the first of a series mega projects promised by the government to transform the country after years of political and often violent turmoil. Cairo’s streets are adorned with billboards and flags praising President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and celebrating “Egypt’s gift to the world.”
