Alex the Great is an enormous splicer contained within a tank at Fontaine Futuristics. He initially contacts the player as Gil Alexander, an employee at the department who tells the player he is now insane through past recordings. You first encounter the now Alex the Great not in physical form but by a robotic avatar with a clear obsession for work ethic, management and downsizing.

"You know what that means? Fired, fired, FIRED!"

He pesters you constantly throughout the level, but this is by far the best scene. It reminded me of Niles from Gears of War 2 who leaves similar messages warning Marcus and Dom about his new AI personality.

When you actually find him in the tank he just looks like a giant blob, apparently this is the result of a ridiculous amount of ADAM. Killing him is morally the correct choice because his former self asks you to do it even though he gets electrocuted rather painfully (NOT CONFIRMED)

A last piece of trivia is that he was the one that developed the bond between Big Daddies and Little Sisters and helped to create the Vita Chamber (which brought you back to life at the start of the game so you owe him)
