Educational animated video aimed at scientific education in compulsory education.
This video is the second in a series of animations on the atomic structure of matter that culminates in Rutherford's experiments. In this series, the videos are left open to encourage reflection.
** Activity proposals **
After watching the video, in pairs, discuss the following questions:
What if the cathode had not been pierced?
Where does the beam bend to? Therefore, what can we infer from the electrical nature of cathode rays?
Why are different metals being tested at the anode? What is observed when doing it? What can we deduce from these results?
Share your answers with the rest of the class.
If you’re using this video on its own, you can search what Thomson actually discovered and what model of the atom he postulated. These concepts are touched in greater depth in subsequent videos.
