Many people with a later model Ford Explorer have experienced an issue with the  REAR SEAT not folding down.  The reason this happens is that over time the cable that opperates this function stretches out runs from the lever on the side of the seatMany people with a later model Ford Explorer have experienced an issue with the  REAR SEAT not folding down.

The reason this happens is that over time the cable that operates this function stretches out and does not release the lock mechanism found at the center leg of the seat.

(I'm referencing the larger right side rear passenger seat here, because that's the one that we had our problem with. Ours is a 1996 EXPLORER)

The cable  runs from the release lever on the side of the seat, across and through the length of the seat, and out and down to a small black plastic pulley wheel (about the size of a quarter) that can be found mounted to the rear center "leg" bracket.

Ours had a plastic cosmetic cover over it so we could not see the pulley while the seat was still in the vehicle.  So we removed the rear seats to find the pulley and fix the problem.

Once the seat was out, it was an easy fix.

I removed a star bolt that held on the plastic cosmetic cover and easily had access to the little black pulley.

With needle nosed pliers, I stretched the cable to see how much slack it now had, then I Dremeled™ a new anchor point into the pulley and just moved the cable's factory anchor end into the new hole.  Quick, easy, and works like a charm now!

Thanx to our pals over at the ExplorerForum.com for their suggestions on how to fix this.  Having scoured the internet and failing to find videos or  images as to how to fix this problem, I figured I'd post our success to help others fix similar problems.
