Gertrude Abercrombie, who lived from 1909 to 1977, was an eccentric Surrealist painter with an insatiable appetite for the arts. At the epicenter of Chicago’s cultural scene, Abercrombie forged a network between the city’s creative geniuses, and encouraged freedom of expression in every capacity. For this, she would become known as “The queen of the bohemian artists.” and “The Gertrude Stein of the Midwest.”

EDIT: The Works Progress Administration (WPA) was established by former president Franklin D. Roosevelt, not Theodore Roosevelt.
