New FANUC SR-3iA SCARA Robot Performs High-speed Part Arrangement Through Visual Circular Tracking

FANUC's all-new SR Series SCARA Robots are ideal for high-speed, precision assembly and handling applications - such as the high speed part arrangement operation seen here. In this demonstration, FANUC's new SR-3iA SCARA robot picks randomly-oriented parts from a moving circular disc and places them onto a conveyor at a rate of 115 parts per minute. The robot accomplishes this through the use of visual circular tracking, a process in which the robot uses FANUC iRVision and FANUC iRPickTool software to track, locate, pick and place the parts at high speeds and high precision.

With visual circular tracking, the parts are transferred straight from the circular disc and arranged on conveyor via the robot for other downstream processes. Feeding parts in a circular disc eliminates unnecessary part handling, which minimizes potential product damage. Visual circular tracking also allows for a compact system for part feeding; this compact design, paired with the compact size of the FANUC SR-3iA SCARA robot, provides customers with significant space savings - ultra fast pick and place throughput rates with a minimal footprint.

FANUC's new SR-3iA SCARA robot features a 3-kilogram payload, 400-millimeter reach, 200-millimeter vertical travel and a lightweight design that enables easy system integration and continuous fast operation. It comes standard with FANUC's new, high-performance R-30iB Compact Plus Controller, and new Web-based iRProgrammer user interface for easy setup and programming on a Tablet or PC.
