It's the same story in homes across Australia....it's flying-fox orphan season complete with crying babies, bottles, baths, dirty bottoms and continually plugging in lost dummies/pacifiers.
Volunteer bat carers raise thousands of orphaned flying-foxes each year who would otherwise perish and just like human babies, our furry bubs need lots of love and attention to thrive.
Mums get killed on barbed wire fences, in large aperture fruit tree netting as well as through car hits, dog attacks, electrocution on over head power lines to name just a few of the urban hazards bats face on a daily basis.
Raising orphaned flying-foxes is a lot of work but our efforts are well rewarded and we receive far more than we can ever give from our little cuddle bunnies.
As the weeks roll by it's hard to believe that in just three or four short months, these little bats will be flying free, cross pollinating important hardwood species and dispersing the seeds of the forests of the future.
