This episode of Timm's BMW E31 Buyers Guide is all about the external lighting. We have a look how effective it is as standard and the 'upgrade' of some of the lights to more powerful LED's.

The aim of the Upgrades is to keep the car itself absolutely standard without the addition of ugly resistors spliced into the ancient wiring (never a good idea to fiddle with the wiring, it's just about holding on as it is).
Any modification made involves fiddling with the bulbs themselves - fitting small clever devices (called PTC's) that fool the LKM so that they appear as the original tungsten lamps. The only exception is the FTP lighting strips that require reversible modifications.
