Count Armand de Kergaz, wealthy and generous, sets out to find the unknown heiress of Baron de Kermarouët's fabulous inheritance... He comes up against a diabolical character, Sir Williams, who wants to capture the inheritance for his own profit... Sir Williams hires a lively, cunning and skilful young prowler of the gates: ROCAMBOLE... who doesn't yet seem to have considered the question of Good and Evil... The important thing, for him, is that a game "is played and be played!" But he's too much of a character to be just a servant of Sir Williams, and from this a second conflict is born. Of course, after a thousand twists and turns (which gave rise to the adjective "rocambolesque"), Good wins out. Not without Rocambole, touched by the innocence of the newfound heiress, giving the "nudge" that ensures victory for the Count of Kergaz...
