The 187 Legion was a unit belonging to the Grand Army of the Republic. During the Clone Wars, Jedi Master Mace Windu had sovereignty over its troops.
In 22 BBY, forces of the Confederation of Independent Systems invaded the planet Dantooine. 187 Legion was sent there to free the planet. The unit suffered heavy losses in this battle, but in the end the Republic forces won. Three years later, the 187th Legion fought in the Battle of Coruscant. The legion was defending the fourth sector.
Some of the soldiers of this unit painted their armor purple, matching the color of General Windu's lightsaber blade.
