Avoid these 5 mistakes for better mixes on the XR18 or MR18. X-Air. XR18 / MR18 Tutorial. Explanations, examples, and tips and tricks for audio mixing / sound reinforcement.
These are particularly notable for those audio techs and musicians coming over to a digital console for the first time. Especially, coming from a typical small 16 channel analog console without nearly the options found in the XR18.

I listed them more in the 'order of operations' as they would happen at a typical soundcheck, more than in the order of importance or worst mistakes.
I'd lean heavily on gain structure being a top issue to be sorted out. First in getting the gain structure correct, and right there with that, not mixing on the gain knobs. That creates a lot of downstream problems that many don't even realize they are doing. Prime among them being that changing the gain is changing the stage monitor levels if mixing monitors from FOH (which undoubtedly many XR18 users would be doing).
The information here is the same for the Midas MR18 as well.
In fact, this information also translates to the X32 and M32, but the interface will look slightly different than what you see in this video.

If you're having trouble with your wifi connections with the XR18, one bit of advice is to buy an external router. Preferably one with 2.4G and 5G bands. The internal wifi in the XR18 is notoriously finicky and not able to hold solid connections in busy wifi environments. Probably not a problem for your rehearsal space, but can definitely be a problem for packed venues.
