Straight Pool ep. 1 "The Pilot" by Pro Billiards Tour

The idea for a pool podcast started when Kim Davenport, Don Mackey and Mike Sigel were sitting on Mackey’s Florida lanai, talking about pool.

Davenport brought up how big Dave Portnoy and his internet-based Barstool Sports is. Sigel talked about Joe Rogan’s hugely successful podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience”.

“I think you guys could do a regular podcast that pool fans would love” Mackey offered. “Nobody understands the game, the history, and the pro culture the way the top guys do. Let’s have some fun. Let’s do a podcast that gives fans the inside straight talk the way only PBT Legends can.”

They called Reed Pierce up in Mississippi, to see what he was doing and told him the idea. "I’m in," said Pierce. Game on!

This is the very first show, produced in Reunion Florida in June, 2022. But what to call it? After much discussion, they decided on “Straight Pool".

Davenport, Pierce, and Sigel: “We think pool fans want to know what goes on inside the game, who the players are really like, and what the true history of pro pool is. We lived it and loved it - and still do. Now we want to share that with the world. We hope folks will enjoy it all.”
