Parts of Antarctica are turning green because of global climate change. Higher temperatures have lead to slushy snow, the perfect platform for algal blooms to flourish.
Thanks to the global climate crisis, these algal blooms have boomed in recent years, though they have always existed in Antarctica. Algae can actually help capture carbon emissions in the atmosphere, but the benefits of Antarctic algal blooms don't outweigh the sobering reality of a rise in temperatures caused by global warming. Antarctica is turning green, but the rise in green snow should be a dire warning to us all, because a green Antarctica means the world is in serious trouble.
