Denmark's Queen Margrethe II and her son, Crown Prince Frederik, separately leave Copenhagen's royal residence, Amalienborg, and travel to Christiansborg Palace for the queen's official abdication, handing over the throne to Frederik. More than 100,000 Danes turned out for the unprecedented event, which saw the first Danish sovereign in almost nine centuries step down.
