Your new glasses are on their way. But how do you know these have been fitted correctly?
For the lenses, there are 2 dimensions that are very important. One is your PD, or pupillary distance. The other measurement is the fitting height.
How are these measurement obtained?
If you are lucky, your eye doctor has noted your PD on your prescription. But most commonly, this is measured by the optician, who sells you your glasses.
What do you do if your eye doctor or optician does not want to give you your PD? Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon occurrence. They do not like to make it easy for you to buy your glasses on-line.
Fortunately, visio-rx is the only website that has a simple and reliable on-line tool that you can use to accurately measure your PD with a few clicks of the mouse.
Measuring the fitting height is a different cup of tea. Easy to do in person by an optician. Why are fitting height and PD so important?
Lenses have a focal point, and optimal vision only occurs when the lens optical center is right in front of your pupil. If the lens optical center is not in front of your pupil, you will be looking through a different area of the lens.
A prism effect will occur, resulting in image shift and blurriness.
For progressive lenses, correct PD and fitting height are crucial. Many people have slightly different so called monocular PD's - or the distance of each pupil to the middle of your nose bridge.
Sometimes, your eye doctor or optician may have noted this on your prescription. But often they will not have done so. Our UNIQUE online PD meter is great for accurately measuring distance PD.
