This video details the spring water collection and pumping system installed on a rural property in Big Sur, CA.

The system collects water from the spring in a 300 gallon holding tank. A 3/4 horsepower jet pump with buffering from a pressure tank pumps the water from the holding tank up to the main storage tanks 200' higher and 500' away from the spring site.

The system self-regulates using a pump-down float switch in the holding tank to prevent the pump from running dry. At the storage tanks up top the inlet line is regulated with a float valve, which, when the tanks are full, will shut, leading to an increase in line pressure. A pressure switch was wired in down at the pump to sense this increase in line pressure, and tells the pump to cut out when line pressure reaches 100 psi, thereby preventing overfilling of the upper storage tanks or over-pressurizing the lines.

When the main storage tanks are full and there is no need to pump from the holding tank, an overflow line returns excess water back to the drainage bottom in a small rock pool created to provide drinking water for wildlife. A spigot was added on the side of the holding tank to allow neighbors to come and fill up their water bottles and 5 gallon jugs for home use.
