GRILLED MOCHI- Mitarashi Dango and Yakimochi, a Savory Snack + Ceramic Grill Unboxing!

Hello!
Today we are making more MOCHI!  I've noticed how popular mochi dishes are and wanted to learn how to make grilled mochi (Yakimochi) with different savory sauces and a popular Japanese snack, Mitarashi Dango!  This was a great family affair and everyone loved it.  We even decided to cook the mochi on a small Japanese grill outside which made the dango taste even more delicious!

Dango recipe:
2/3 C. Mochiko(Japanese rice flour)  
3/4 C. Shiratamako (Glutinous rice flour) I found this at our local Japanese market, Marukai in Hawaii so I'm sure other Asian grocery stores carry this flour as well.  
2/3 C. Warm water

Sweet Soy Glaze
4 Tbsp sugar
2 Tbsp mirin (rice wine)
2 Tbsp shoyu
2/3 C. water
2 Tbsp potato or cornstarch

For the Yakimochi, we used dried mochi (which didn't turn out as well).  I would've preferred to just make more dango and use those to grill for the other sauces as well.

Isobeyaki/Shoyu Sauce
2 Tbsp shoyu
2 Tbsp mirin
1-2 Tbsp sugar

Miso Sauce
2 Tbsp miso
2 Tbsp mirin
2 Tsp sugar
sesame seeds and green onions are optional

We really enjoyed making and eating this recipe!  It was so delicious and would recommend it to everyone who loves mochi!  If you don't want to use an outside grill, you can always use a non-stick frying pan to grill the mochi.  If you DO have the time to grill over charcoal, then I suggest you do it.  Nothing beats the taste of a warm piece of mochi freshly grilled with the shoyu glaze.  And you know it's worth it when Grandma decides to have seconds on her own!
