Airplanes adorn the sky with purposeful lights, beyond aesthetics, each crucial for safety. These lights serve three primary functions: illuminating areas for pilot visibility, enhancing overall aircraft visibility, and fulfilling various functional needs. Essential lights for commercial planes include Landing Lights, guiding runway visibility; Beacon Lights, signaling engine start; Strobe Lights, crucial for night visibility; and Position Lights, indicating direction and position.

Specifically, Landing Lights, located on landing gear struts or beneath wings, assist pilots during takeoff and landing. Beacon Lights, a slowly flashing red light atop the plane, signal imminent engine start, requiring safety clearance. Strobe Lights, on wingtips, enhance overall visibility, crucial for collision avoidance. Navigation Lights, typically on wingtips with red on the left and green on the right, aid observers in determining the plane's position and direction.

Beyond essentials, additional lights contribute to safety. Taxi and Take-off Lights, on the nose wheel strut, aid taxiing and illuminate the runway during takeoff. Runway Turnoff Lights assist in taxi turns, illuminating a 45-degree angle. Wing and Engine Scan Lights illuminate wing edges and engine inlets, aiding in detecting ice buildup. While some lights serve branding, the core focus remains on safety. Comment if you're familiar with the significance of green and red lights!
