Kampot is located in South Western Cambodia on the Praek Tuek Chhu River  and with the increase in tourism it is now a not too hidden secret for adventuous travellers to Cambodia. Kampot has plenty to offer with its French Colonial architecture, peaceful river setting and close vaccinity to Bokor National Park.

Bokor Mountain offers cooler temperatures as you rise in elevation. The road up to the summit is lined with monkeys and the vast forested area is said to contain leopards, tigers, elephants and bears.

Kampot is renowned for the cultivation of high quality pepper since the 13th century and you can visit a plantation for a guided tour. Don't purchase pepper at the plantation as you'll find it much cheaper at the market in Kampot.

It is easy and cheap to get here from Phnom Penh via the numerous minibus services that run daily. Its costs around US$8-10 per person and takes around 4 hours although you will run the gauntlet of poor quality roads, speeding, terrible driving standards and constantly  blaring horns.
