BioID, how do you guarantee #privacy in #biometrics?
For a German biometrics company, data privacy is and has always been one of the main pillars to build our system on. Not only since GDPR has come into effect, but since 1998, when we started our research and development. https://www.bioid.com
Our developers have strict opinions about privacy, so, for instance, our Marketing team is not even allowed to use Google Analytics, as this would send information about our website visitors to a third party.
So how do we provide #dataprivacy in biometrics?
On the one hand, we make sure to only process user data we really need to perform a biometric operation. As an example, we don’t need any names, addresses or email-addresses to perform facial verification. So, we don’t store any either.
In addition, we strictly separate personal data from biometric data.
The biometric information is not related to a name, but to a pseudonymized identifier, the BCID. This is important for GDPR compliance.
To make it clear: We don’t know whom we recognize. Instead, we just check if the new, incoming biometrics are comparable to those stored.
The stored features are called template. A template is a mathematical code that represents your features. The binary template can’t be exported or used outside of the BioID Web Service. It is useless for any third party and also not connected to a person’s name or address.

While we only process data we really need for the biometric tasks, we also delete everything we don’t need any longer, automatically.
Of course, image transmission is encrypted.
And, by default, we use EU datacenters to make sure data is processed within the EU without exception.

Here, face verification is used to enable a more secure and smooth authentication of employees. Believe me, when I say, that data privacy is absolutely crucial for such use cases. Thankfully, as a German company, we are able to provide it.
