Root canal therapy is a common dental procedure that aims to save a tooth by addressing infections or inflammation in the pulp (the innermost layer) of the tooth. Here’s a concise overview:

Diagnosis and Assessment:
Before initiating treatment, your dentist or endodontist will take dental X-rays of the affected tooth.
They may perform other tests to determine if the tooth pulp is dead, infected, or inflamed, confirming the need for a root canal.
These tests may include tapping the tooth gently or using an electric pulp test (EPT) to assess pulp reactivity .

Anesthesia:
Your provider will inject local anesthesia to numb the infected tooth and the surrounding gum area.

Access Opening:
The dentist creates a small opening in the crown of the tooth to access the pulp chamber.

Pulp Removal:
The infected or inflamed pulp tissue is carefully removed from the pulp chamber and root canals.
This step alleviates pain and prevents further spread of infection.
Cleaning and Shaping:

The dentist cleans and disinfects the inside of the tooth’s root canals.
Special instruments are used to shape the canals, ensuring thorough cleaning.

Filling and Sealing:
After cleaning, the canals are filled with a biocompatible material (usually gutta-percha).
The space is sealed to prevent reinfection.

Restoration:
A temporary filling or crown is placed on the tooth to protect it until the final restoration.
In some cases, a permanent crown may be placed immediately.
Final Restoration:
A dental crown (usually made of ceramic or metal) is placed over the treated tooth.
The crown restores function, aesthetics, and strength to the tooth.

Advantages of Root Canal Treatment:

Saves the natural tooth.
Relieves pain and discomfort.
Restores normal chewing and biting function.
