Before she coaxed the blues right out of the horn, "Mame" was "Auntie Mame," first a novel by Patrick Dennis (pseudonym for Edward E. Tanner III), then a hit stage play starring Rosalind Russell who did reprise the role in 1958 Technirama screen version for Warner Bros. Pictures.  The film was scored by Bronislaw Kaper, whose compositions for other films ("On Green Dolphin Street," "Invitation," and "Hi Lili, Hi Lo") have become standards.  Kaper's lavish score for "Auntie Mame" somehow got lost in the Warner Bros. vault and totally forgotten.  If you haven't seen the classic 1958 film, join DVD.com, rent the DVD or Blu-ray disc, and prepare yourself for a couple of hours of laughs and keep at least two hankies handy, too!  Sadly, this gorgeous Technirama production was not mixed to stereo for the film's release.
