We show you exactly how to create a Minecraft server in 1.16.5, how to allow your friends to join your Minecraft 1.16.5 server, and how to make sure you fix any issues you may have when starting a server. Our goal is for this to be the complete guide for making a Minecraft server for 1.16.5, and I think we have done that. Thus, here is how to setup a Minecraft 1.16.5 server!
The first step of making a Minecraft server in 1.16.5 is downloading the Minecraft server file. You can find a link in the description above to get to our text tutorial for making a Minecraft 1.16.5 server. Once you are there, you will see a ‘Download Minecraft’ button. Click that, and you will be taken the to Minecraft 1.16.5 server file download page. Once you are here, click the download ‘minecraft_1.16.5_server.jar’ link. This will start downloading the Minecraft server file right away.
Once you have this file downloaded, create a new folder on your desktop with the name ‘Minecraft 1.16.5 Server’. Then, drag-and-drop the 1.16.5 server file you downloaded into it. Now, open up your Minecraft server folder, and double click the server.jar file you downloaded. An EULA.txt file and a few other files/folders should appear. If they don’t, you need to download Java and run the Jarfix in the description. You will the be able to double click your server folder.
Now, we need to agree to the Minecraft server EULA. To do this, open the ‘eula.txt’ file you have in your server folder, and change ‘EULA=false’ to ‘EULA=true’ assuming you agree to Minecraft’s EULA. Save the file, and double click the server.jar again. Your Minecraft server will now start up running 1.16.5. You can join this video your IPv4 address. To find this, and your default gateway that we will need later, open up the Command Prompt and type ‘ipconfig’. Hit enter and your default gateway and IPv4 address will appear. Copy those down for later.
At this point, you can join your Minecraft server in 1.16.5. However, your friends cannot. In order to allow your friends to join your Minecraft server, you will need to port forward port ‘25565’ on the TCP and UDP protocols.
Lastly, for your friends to join your Minecraft server, you will need to get your public IP address from the description above. Give this to them, and they can type it into Minecraft to join your server. If they have any issues you may need to allow Minecraft through a firewall on your router or your computer.
