Radiohead – Lucky (1995 HELP)

The first appearance of Lucky by Radiohead was on the 1995 HELP album. The band wanted to donate their best track which appeared two years later on OK Computer. Radiohead were so happy with the track produced by Nigel Godrich (who you can see at the mixing desk) they used the exact same version on OK Computer.

All of the songs, along with a handful that were released on a companion EP, were recorded on one day, Monday, September 4th, 1995, mixed the following day, and released to the buying public a few days later, on Saturday, September 9th.

HELP sold over 70,000 copies on day one and reached number one in the UK compilation charts. HELP would have reached number one on the UK albums chart had it been eligible.

The album also won a special award at the 1995 Q Awards and the Freddie Mercury Award at the 1996 BRIT Awards.
